Wereldmuseum Amsterdam's Sunday harvest festival: the Moon Festival beside Thanksgiving, and a family of four saves 7 euro online

For a rainy September Sunday afternoon with children, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam has a fixed answer: every Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00 its Feestwinkel hosts Feest op zondag: Oogstfeest, a harvest festival, with entry until 15:30. The remaining dates are 13, 20 and 27 September and 4 October, four Sundays in all. The museum puts the world's harvest festivals side by side: the Chinese Moon Festival, Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada, the German Erntedankfest, Sukkot in Israel and the Fiesta de la Vendimia in Argentina, each marking the end of the harvest with meals, processions, dance and symbols such as bread, fruit and lights. For Chinese families in the Netherlands, it is one of few places that sets the Mid-Autumn Festival beside other countries' feasts for children.

The sum to do yourself is the family ticket. Two adults and two children aged 6 to 18 pay 2 × 18 + 2 × 7.50 = 51 euro online and 2 × 20 + 2 × 9 = 58 euro at the door, so booking before leaving saves 7 euro. A child of 5 or under drops out of the sum, and adults with a Museumkaart are left paying only for the children. Amsterdam families with a Stadspas get one free visit a month, and the best use of this month's visit is one of these festival Sundays.

The activity page gives only the theme, place and times and does not list what happens on each Sunday, so treat it as part of a Sunday afternoon at the museum rather than a trip for one specific activity. Hong Kong's official 2026 holiday list puts the day following the Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday 26 September, so this year the festival falls on Friday 25 September and the nearest Sunday is 27 September.
