The Lidl flyer, 9 to 13 September: 21 pages over five days, while a second Lidl flyer runs three days inside it

The Lidl flyer runs to 21 pages, from Wednesday 9 September to Sunday 13 September. Two new Lidl flyers turned up on the same page today: this one over five days, and another running from Friday 11 September across just three days and four pages. Both end on 13 September, so on Friday, Saturday and Sunday both are live, while on Wednesday and Thursday only this one is. One shop, one week, two sets of pages. The mistake that follows is rarely about price; it is assuming the page you are looking at is already in force.

Density is 21 over 5, or 4.2 pages a day, on the lower side of today’s thirteen. With only five days this is essentially a one-trip flyer; there is no room to split the shopping in two.

With two flyers in one shop the sum is this: fix the day you are going, then see which flyers are live on that day. On 9 and 10 September only these 21 pages apply; from 11 to 13 September it is 21 pages plus 4, or 25 pages live at once. Remember a price on Wednesday and go on Saturday and you may find a different label on the shelf. That is not the shop changing its mind, it is a second flyer joining for those three days.

Hokimi field note: when one shop runs two flyers at once, do not try to hold both page numbers in your head. Remember the item and the day you plan to go; at the shop the shelf label settles it.
