One 2,3 W, 435 lumen, energy-label-A E27 bulb; three for EUR 12.69, so about EUR 4,23 each. That figure decides nothing on its own. What decides it is the wattage printed on the bulb you are about to replace.

What you need to know

Amazon.nl lists it today at EUR 12,69 for three, against a median of EUR 13,99, in stock. The spec table is unambiguous: 2,3 W, 435 lumens, 2700K warm white, E27 screw fitting, 230 V, energy label A, sold as a replacement for a traditional 40 W incandescent. Philips prints "50% more savings" on the box, and that claim is measured against an ordinary LED, not against an incandescent.

There is one sum the retailer page will not do for you, and only you can do it, because it needs two numbers from your own home. Take the wattage printed on the bulb you are replacing, subtract 2,3, divide by 1000, multiply by the hours that lamp burns per day, multiply by 365. That is the kilowatt-hours you save in a year. Multiply by the price per kWh on your own energy contract and you have the money. Divide 4,23 by that figure and you have the years to pay it back.

Put real numbers in and the answer splits cleanly in two. Replacing a working 40 W incandescent: a 37,7 W gap, two hours a day is 27,5 kWh a year, about EUR 9,63 at EUR 0,35 per kWh, so it pays for itself inside five months. Replacing a perfectly good modern LED: the gap is two or three watts, under one kWh a year at the same two hours, well under a euro, and payback runs past seven years, which is longer than you will keep the lamp. So this is the answer to "what do I put in when one dies", not a reason to go round the house tonight unscrewing bulbs that still work.Source 1

Hokimi tip: before ordering, switch off whichever lamp in your home burns longest, unscrew the bulb and read the wattage on it. That number settles this decision better than anything on this page.
