Family flower picking in Friesland: cut a dahlia bouquet from 7,000 m²

Pluktuin de Wâlden opens Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00 in Twijzelerheide. A bucket and secateurs are supplied, and fifteen dahlias cost €10, making a slow family bouquet project easy to budget.

• The field covers nearly 7,000 square metres with more than 100 dahlia varieties and thousands of flowers. Dahlias cost €0.75 each or fifteen for €10; other home-grown stems start at €0.50.
• The growers use no pesticides and only organic fertiliser, while the flowers avoid long-distance transport. Self-picking therefore changes both how the bouquet is made and how far it travels.
• Children can explore a gnome forest, scavenger hunt and sandpit while adults stop for coffee or tea. Blooming depends on weather and picking pressure, so check the latest update and wear shoes that can get muddy.
