Why the KNMI app can now answer rain with a smaller map

Dutch weather changes quickly, yet coast, city and inland areas inside one province have often received the same warning colour, encouraging the idea that risk is uniform. After the meteorological-task rules changed on 20 May 2026, KNMI can issue warnings more locally when data and technology permit. The KNMI app is therefore more than a temperature screen: it sends alerts and action advice for selected locations, shows hourly information, a fourteen-day range and indicators such as heat intensity. More local does not mean perfectly certain. Shower tracks and timing can still shift, and longer forecasts describe a range rather than a promise. The useful setup separates home, commute and outdoor destinations, then uses each alert as a prompt to read the official detail.
