Berichtenbox gathers digital government mail; email only signals new post, questions go to the sending authority, and deadlines belong to the letter itself.

What you need to know

A Sunday plan can look organised while one administrative task remains invisible: opening the actual government mailbox. MijnOverheid’s Berichtenbox is not an ordinary email inbox. Participating authorities place formal digital letters there, while email notifications merely announce that something arrived. After signing in, check the document, sender, date and required action. Questions must go to the tax office, municipality, UWV or other sending body because Berichtenbox receives messages but cannot send replies. Not every authority participates, and users can choose which organisations may deliver digitally. Hokimi recommends a fixed weekly check, including confirmation that the notification address still works. Archive finished letters instead of deleting them twice; once a letter is also removed from the trash, it cannot be restored by the user.

  • Berichtenbox is the personal inbox for digital government letters.
  • Email alerts can flag new and unread post, but the formal message remains inside Berichtenbox.
  • The mailbox receives only; questions go to the authority that sent the letter.
  • A letter removed from both inbox and trash cannot be restored by the user.

Hokimi field note: Sign in today, handle the oldest unread letter and set a weekly calendar reminder. If a relative helps, use the official authorisation route instead of sharing a DigiD password.
