What you need to know

Berlin has more than one viewing platform and the prices are far apart. Panoramapunkt at Potsdamer Platz 1 goes up to the 24th and 25th floors of the Kollhoff building for 9.00 euro, while the TV Tower ticket sold on the same platform is 20.00. The nine-euro ticket already includes the lift, the platform, the Berliner Blicke exhibition and admission to the cafe, but the venue own price page carries two further charges billed per use, and they are worth reading before you decide. Rated 4.6 from 211 reviews.

  • The ticket is 9.00 euro in a single Standard variant, from age 7, cancellable up to 24 hours before the time slot. (source 1)
  • The venue own price page states the ticket already covers the lift ride, the viewing platform, the Berliner Blicke exhibition and admission to the Panoramacafe. (source 2)
  • Two things are charged separately: a 360-degree panorama card at 3.00 euro and binocular hire at 2.50 euro, with a 30 euro deposit taken on the binoculars. (source 2)
  • Groups: from 15 people, online tickets carry 10 percent off; 15 people earn one free ticket and 30 people earn two. (source 2)
  • Open daily 10.00 to 19.00 with the last lift at 18.30, cafe 11.00 to 18.00, at Potsdamer Platz 1, 10785 Berlin. (source 2)

The first sum is the add-ons: 9.00 plus 2.50 plus 3.00 is 14.50 euro. Those two small items together are 5.50, six tenths of the ticket, so what decides the cost of the visit is not the entry price but whether you say yes at the counter. The binoculars also carry a 30 euro deposit, which you have to remember to collect on the way out.

The second sum is for groups: people times 9.00 times 0.9, divided by people plus free tickets, is the real price a head. Fifteen people pay 15 times 9.00 times 0.9, which is 121.50, and one ticket is free, so across sixteen that is 7.59 each. Thirty people pay 243.00 with two free, and across thirty-two that is again 7.59. The two thresholds give exactly the same per-head price, so once you reach fifteen the discount is already fully taken and finding another fifteen people saves nobody a cent.

The third sum sets it beside the alternative: the Berlin TV Tower ticket on the same platform is 20.00 euro, 2.2 times as much. Both are ways of standing high over Berlin. The tower is taller and better known; this one includes an exhibition and a cafe. If you only mean to go up once, ask whether you want the 368-metre name or a coffee and an exhibition, because the 11 euro between them is roughly a lunch.
