Odin recalls two Geifertshofen cheeses six days apart: after Wengert comes Peperkaas, with the same three best-before dates

If you have bought cheese from the German village dairy Dorfkäserei Geifertshofen at an Odin organic shop or through Odin's online delivery, it is worth checking the fridge again this week. On 4 September Odin recalled the Wengert cheese because it may have been contaminated with Listeria during ripening; on 10 September it recalled the same dairy's Peperkaas, a pepper cheese, after Listeria was found in cheese samples from the ripening cellar, and the Dutch food and consumer product safety authority NVWA issued a safety warning the same day. Both cheeses carry the oval mark DE BW 445 EG and the same three best-before dates, so a household that checked for Wengert last week can easily assume the matter is closed. Odin's instruction is plain: do not eat it, and take it back to the shop or show your receipt for a refund at the till.

• How to recognise them: Peperkaas has barcode 4260592732017 and Odin article number 283731; Wengert has barcode 4260592732048 and Odin article number 28373. Both carry the oval mark DE BW 445 EG, and only packs with best-before 17 September, 8 October or 15 October 2026 are recalled. (source 1, source 2)
• Who should take extra care: Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, nausea and diarrhoea, and Odin says older people, pregnant women, newborns and people with weakened immunity face a higher risk. You can check three things yourself: the barcode (4260592732017 or 4260592732048), the oval mark (DE BW 445 EG) and the best-before date (17-9, 8-10 or 15-10-2026). If all three match, the pack is recalled; if any one differs, it is not from this batch. The refund is the purchase price you paid.

Hokimi's view: the easiest thing to miss this time is not the news but the feeling of having already checked. The two recalls share the oval mark and the three dates and differ only in the last three barcode digits, so a household that checked for Wengert alone should look through every Geifertshofen cheese in the fridge again.
