Nijmegen’s dark expeditions are led by blind or low-vision guides. The point is not guessing objects fastest, but noticing how ordinary spaces assume one kind of body.

What you need to know

Once the light disappears, visitors can instinctively turn the experience into a contest: identify an object, move quickly and prove that they adapt well. muZIEum instead gives interpretive authority to blind and low-vision guides, directing attention toward sound, distance, trust and the assumptions built into public space. After its 2026 reopening, the museum added the Unseen exhibition and opens daily from 09:30 to 17:00. Listed prices for ages thirteen and above are €28 for an expedition plus exhibition or €15 for the exhibition only; ages eight to twelve pay €23 or €10. Routes require reservation. Hokimi’s view is that the visit works best when it is not framed as “being blind for an hour,” but as listening to expertise that can change how a city is read afterwards.

  • The museum opens daily, 09:30–17:00.
  • Blind or low-vision guides lead dark expeditions.
  • The adult expedition-plus-exhibition price is listed at €28.
  • The address is Ziekerstraat 6B in Nijmegen.

Hokimi field note: Before booking, check age, language, route intensity and accessibility. During the expedition, do not race a companion or turn a guide’s life into inspiration. Afterwards, examine one public place and note how lighting, signs, echo and obstacles either include or exclude people.
