From 10 August to 7 September, road traffic and buses cannot cross; cycling, Waterbus and off-peak work become practical choices.

What you need to know

For Krimpenerwaard residents, Algerabrug is not an ordinary junction but the regional link used by about 47,000 vehicles each day. From midnight on 10 August, the 1958 bridge closes for four weeks while timber beams, steel members and moving machinery are renewed; cars, lorries and regular buses cannot cross directly. Rijkswaterstaat warns that the diversion via Gouda can add more than sixty minutes each way, so choosing another car route is not automatically the best answer. A temporary bridge remains for walking and cycling, while hubs on both sides connect buses, metro, Waterbus, shared bikes and cars. Home working, off-peak travel or leaving the car at a hub deserves a full door-to-door comparison.

  • Closure runs from 00:00 on 10 August to 05:00 on 7 September.
  • Road traffic and buses are closed; emergency vehicles retain controlled access.
  • Walkers and cyclists use a temporary bridge.
  • Further night and weekend works continue after reopening.
